Optimus (Gen 2) is Tesla's general-purpose humanoid robot, ~1.73 m tall and ~57 kg, designed to perform repetitive or dangerous manual work in Tesla factories and, eventually, homes. It carries up to ~20 kg and uses custom planetary roller-screw linear actuators for shock-load resistance while walking. Gen 2 hands have 11 degrees of freedom each; the Gen 3 hand upgrade raises this to ~22 DOF per hand. Tesla positions Optimus for high-volume, low-cost production and integration with its in-house AI compute.
