Overview

Ruckig computes time-optimal, jerk-limited trajectories online: from any initial state (position, velocity, acceleration) to any target state, within given kinematic limits, in well under 1 ms per cycle. That makes robots reactive — visual servoing, collision avoidance and target updates no longer require stopping or offline replanning. Born from Lars Berscheid's RSS 2021 paper at KIT and maintained by Griffig Robotics GmbH, the MIT-licensed community version powers the trajectory smoothing in MoveIt 2 and CoppeliaSim; Ruckig Pro adds intermediate waypoints, velocity/acceleration-level interfaces and embedded targets for commercial motion stacks.

Key features

  • Time-optimal state-to-state trajectories with jerk limits, computed online (<1 ms)
  • Replan every control cycle from the current state — instant reaction to sensor input
  • Used by MoveIt 2 and CoppeliaSim as trajectory smoother/generator
  • C++20 and Python; Pro version adds waypoint trajectories
