MoveIt 2 is the most widely used open-source motion-planning framework for robot arms. On top of ROS 2 it integrates plugin-based global planners (OMPL sampling-based suite, Pilz industrial motion planner for deterministic LIN/PTP/CIRC moves, CHOMP/STOMP optimizers), collision checking via FCL or Bullet, pluggable inverse kinematics (KDL, TRAC-IK, pick_ik), the MoveIt Task Constructor for multi-stage manipulation pipelines, and MoveIt Servo for realtime Cartesian jogging and visual servoing. Maintained by PickNik Robotics with a large community, it supports virtually every ROS-enabled arm and pairs with Ruckig for jerk-limited trajectory smoothing.
