The Point Cloud Library (PCL) is the reference open-source framework for 2D/3D point-cloud processing. Its module set covers filtering (voxel grids, outlier removal), keypoints and 3D feature descriptors (FPFH, SHOT), registration (ICP variants, NDT), model fitting via sample consensus (planes, cylinders), segmentation and clustering, surface reconstruction, and octree/kd-tree spatial indexing. In industrial robotics it underpins bin-picking scene analysis, LiDAR preprocessing, workpiece localization and quality inspection. Stewarded by Open Perception with BSD-3 licensing and deep ROS integration (pcl_ros, pcl_conversions).
