The 7-DoF Kinova Gen3 adds a redundant joint over the 6-DoF version for singularity and obstacle avoidance in cluttered research setups, reaching 902 mm at 8.2 kg total weight (with vision module). It shares the 6-DoF model's carbon-fiber/aluminum shell, torque-sensing actuators on every joint, and the Kinova Kortex software stack: high-level and low-level (1 kHz) control over Ethernet via C++, Python and MATLAB APIs, with official ROS 2 Humble and ROS Noetic support. An optional interface-module-mounted vision module (Omnivision color sensor + Intel RealSense D410 depth sensor) enables vision-based manipulation research.
