ClassCAD is a headless CAD engine from AWV Informatik AG (St. Gallen, Switzerland) for building web-based, cloud-based and automated CAD applications. It has no screen of its own. A C++ runtime with its own bytecode VM runs the CAD logic, and applications reach it through a stable API of 264 methods across seven domains: part, assembly, sketch, common, curve, solid and drawing2d. Modelling is history-based and parametric: sketches, extrude, revolve, primitives, booleans, fillets, chamfers, patterns and work geometry, with STEP/STL import and STEP/DXF/SVG/STL export. It runs as a native process behind a proxy (Windows, Linux), as a WebSocket or HTTP server, or compiled to WebAssembly in a browser Web Worker. Wrappers exist for JavaScript/Node.js, Python and .NET, and several clients (people or AI agents) can edit one model in a shared session. AWV also builds the buerli.io JavaScript SDK, the Buerligons browser CAD app and the classcad.ai agents on top of it. The engine has run inside other vendors' software for 25 years, including TDM's tool data management (a Sandvik company), and is used to generate robot programs from STEP models.
