First Construction Robotics Hackathon: interdisciplinary teams solve real construction use cases on industrial robots over one weekend.
The first Construction Robotics Hackathon, hosted at the CTRL Lab in Aachen. Over one weekend, interdisciplinary teams of robotics, civil engineering, architecture and computer science students — plus startups and young professionals — take real industrial robots, sensors and modern software and turn them into working solutions for real construction use cases. Rather than building hardware from scratch, participants work on three to four challenges drawn from assembly and installation, surface finishing, construction logistics, and perception and safety, announced shortly before the event. Workshops bring teams up to speed on the robots and tools, and the weekend closes with final demos, a prize pool of up to €10,000, and an afterparty. Participation is free and includes workshops, robot access, meals and accommodation space at the lab; 50 spots are reviewed on a rolling basis. Presented by CTRL e.V., an RWTH Aachen University initiative, with partners including ABB Robotics, RBTX by igus, Siemens and the Robotics Collective.
